A butterfly starts life as a round oval, of cylindrical egg.
The shape of the egg depends on the type of the
butterfly . The butterfly lays its egg at the bottom of the leaf.
The butterfly chooses the leaf to lay its egg on. It
chooses a leaf that the caterpillar can start eating when it hatches. If the butterfly chooses the wrong leaf it won't be able to eat and might die.
When the caterpillar hatches it starts eating immediately. It grows into a fat adult caterpillar. After 14 days the caterpillar forms into a chrysalis. Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar forms into a butterfly.
After 14 days a butterfly emerges from the chrysalis
